"Spare Parts for the Road"
Question: I'm going on the road for a pretty long tour, what parts of the EWI setup most commonly fail so that I can secure spares.

Answer:  By far the most common offender is the cord. Road hands, Bass players, etc. etc. just can't seem to avoid stepping on them. The 3020 cord is particularly delicate and it is a very good idea to carry a spare. One other trick is to never unplug the cord from the EWI itself; just unplug it from the module. When I travel I carry two EWI controllers and two cords in an anvil-type case. The next biggest offender is the mouthpiece.  Having an extra bite sensor set-up is a good idea as is knowing how to fix bite sensor problems.  An ounce of prevention is the key here. Use an anvil-like case for the EWI controller. Another problematic area on the 1000 that was thankfully remedied on the 3000 and 3020 was the little plastic chips under the keys. These have small posts on them that keep the pinky keys from turning. If that post breaks off, the pinky keys rotate out of place no matter how tight the screw is. IMC has replacements and I carry some with me. Believe it or not, they cost about $8.00 each!
